This is the show where you get to find out all about The Hub's Gun Shop and Gun Range. Hosted by Rob "Birdman" Hephner and Bruce Owen

Bruce and Birdman review this very awesome combo of 22 target pistol and suppressor.

Classic Feel, Modern Design. No other 22 LR pistol provides the feel of the classic 1911 pistol with the proven reliability and value of the Ruger® 22/45™ pistols. The perfect trainer, it allows for low-cost practice and provides shooters with the familiar and preferred grip shape and feel of the famous 1911 45 caliber pistol.

In addition to the identical grip angles, the 22/45 features the same fire control locations (manual safeties, magazine releases and bolt hold-opens) as the 1911, making them perfect for 45 caliber shooters looking for an affordable way to train. Also perfect for plinking, target shooting, and small game hunting, the 22/45 is available in a variety of configurations and barrel lengths, each with the same trusted reliability that Ruger has delivered since 1949.

Bruce shows off his favorite concealed wheel gun.

Smith & Wesson 637 Gunsmoke Wyatt Deep Cover .38SPL

Lightweight Personal Defense. The Smith & Wesson 637 Gunsmoke is a traditional double action revolver that reduces weight by way of an aluminum alloy frame. Chambered for the .38 Special cartridge, it has a five shot cylinder and barrel liner that are constructed out of stainless steel. It is rated for +P ammunition, which makes it a handful when shooting more than a cylinder or two.

But there’s no reason to shoot lots of hot, duty-type ammo through this small revolver. The gun's purpose is simple- it was designed to save your life in an emergency. It is specifically geared toward the concealed carry market, an area where it has served with distinction for several decades.

The 637 is lightweight, compact, easy to carry, easy to draw, easy to use and enjoys an excellent power-to-weight ratio. The Smith & Wesson Airweight is celebrated for its reliability, while remaining one of the best carry revolvers ever made.

For those that question the practicality of a revolver, keep in mind they don't jam- up, stovepipe, fail to feed or extract. Compared to semi-autos, revolvers are not only more reliable mechanically, but they are also more forgiving with operator error, and are much simpler to operate under stress.

With revolvers, there’s no chance of limp-wristing or creating a stoppage. There's no magazine to accidentally release and no slide movement to impair the action (if blocked, if ejected shells bounce back into the ejection port, etc.).

Loading and unloading are much easier, and accomplished by using gravity to drop rounds directly into the cylinder, versus the wrestling match new shooter's often experience attempting to push rounds into a magazine under spring tension. In addition, revolvers aren't picky about the types of ammo they fire.

When encountering misfires, rather than highly skilled clearance drills required to get a semi- auto back on line, revolvers only require that an operator squeeze the trigger again. More importantly, revolvers are capable of firing while remaining completely concealed.

Auto's require sufficient distance from objects like clothing to cycle properly. Yes, basic gun handling skills prevent some of the operator-induced mistakes that can cripple a semi-auto. However, these type of errors are practically non- existent on revolvers.

The Smith & Wesson 637 Airweight is outfitted with a 1.875" barrel and weighs in at just under 1- pound. Notwithstanding its snub- nose barrel, this revolver shoots remarkably straight. It has been hand fit to precise tolerances and sports a pair of Smith & Wesson holster grips.

The hammer has been bobbed to provide a snag- free profile and "Gunsmoke: Wyatt Deep Cover" has been custom etched on the side of the gun. Although the Airweight sports a heavy double action trigger, it remains safe in all concealed carry conditions.

Overall, the Smith & Wesson 637 Gunsmoke is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a custom self- defense handgun.

Bruce loves his wheel guns.

The original Dan Wesson revolver improved on the accuracy and service life of the traditional double action revolver design in a few ways. The tensioned barrel of the DW interchangeable barrel system enhances accuracy, pulling the barrel tight like a guitar string, enabling it to vibrate at the same frequency every time. The forward crane latch, located in front of the cylinder and paired with a rear ball detent helps to ensure proper cylinder/barrel alignment during firing. Superior to the rear locking designs of other revolvers, it adds to the accuracy of the 715.

While the tensioned barrel definitely improves accuracy above other revolvers, it’s the consistent cylinder/barrel alignment that contributes most to the accuracy of the design.

Additionally, the clockwise-rotating cylinder reduces stress on the crane, since it turns in the same direction the crane locks, prolonging service life and keeping everything tight. The 715’s frame is robust, built to handle the heaviest of factory loads.

Each revolver is shipped in a custom Dan Wesson hard case. Patterned after the ever-popular Pistol Pack, each case has compartments for three additional barrel assemblies and factory-supplied barrel wrench kit.

It has been produced in many different versions, including numerous semi-automatic and select fire variants. It is manufactured with extensive use of aluminum alloys and synthetic materials.

The AR-15 was first built in 1959 by ArmaLite as a small arms rifle for the United States armed forces. Because of financial problems, ArmaLite sold the design to Colt. After modifications, the redesigned rifle was adopted as the M16 rifle. In 1963, Colt started selling the semi-automatic version of the rifle for civilians as the Colt AR-15 and the term has been used to refer to semiautomatic-only versions of the rifle since then. Although the name "AR-15" remains a Colt registered trademark, variants of the firearm are made, modified, and sold under various names by multiple manufacturers.

In 2003 the gunsmiths and engineers at Smith & Wesson wanted to deliver maximum power for serious handgun hunters. The power they sought required an entirely new frame, the massive "X-Frame™," and was the basis for the new Model S&W500™, the most powerful production revolver in the world.  This ushered in the era of the "big gun" and was only the beginning.   For ultimate power and velocity there's nothing even close to an X-Frame model handgun.

Then Bruce reviews the FN 5.7 in the CCW-Hiking category and explains why this is an incredibaly cool and effective gun.

Combined with the 5.7x28mm ammunition, the FN Five-seveN® MK2 pistol is adapted to different types of close quarter defensive and training scenarios. Optimized to be used in any condition the operator may encounter.

Highly Accurate

The accuray and flat trajectory of the 5.7x28mm cartridge gives a high hit probability up to 50m.

Extremely low recoil results in quick and accurate firing.

High Capacity Magazine

The FN Five-seveN® MK2 pistol can accept up to 20 rounds in the magazine.

Extremely Light and Ergonomic

The light weight of the slide and barrel, made possible by the 5.7mm calibre, and the reduced weight of the cartridge make the loaded weapon much lighter than traditional handguns.

Well-balanced, with smooth contours and no protruding parts, the FN Five-seveN® MK2 pistol will instinctively be handled correctly and is extremely easy to use.

Fully Safe

The FN Five-seveN® MK2 pistol features an ambidextrous manual safety that blocks the trigger mechanism and avoids any accidental firing.

In  Shunryu Suzuki's, Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind he states “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few”

This is evident in a child's ability to learn and in a lot of adult's attitude that "I know how to do that!"

If a person can allow themselves open to new experiences they will be beter suited to learn. Bruce and Birdman talk about how this all applies to gun training and the ability to learn from others, even if they are not as good a shooter.

Training is a skill, specifically it is an observation skill and many times experts in one field (golf, football, baseball....) turn to experts in training to get better or even fix issues. Just because you are a good shot, deosn't mean you can't improve with training and proper feedback.

Listen and then give us your experiences with training or stop by anytime and talk guns.

Bruce even talks about the Point that new guns are usually fired at least a few rounds and come new in a package oily and dirty. With custom gun you can expect that they have been fired even more.

Bruce reviews the HK P30 in the CCW-Home Hybrid category and explains why this is the perfect Home Defense Gun.

A recent HK pistol design, the P30 is a modern police and security pistol that combines function and safety. Ergonomic features include a special grip frame with interchangeable backstrap inserts and lateral plates, allowing the pistol to be individually adapted to any user. Ambidextrous controls include dual slide releases and magazine release levers.

Variants with a conventional double-action/single action trigger have a serrated decocking button located on the rear of the frame. Variants with HK’s enhanced double action only Law Enforcement Modification* (LEM) trigger have no external decocking controls.

The HK Law Enforcement Modification (LEM) trigger system combines the advantages of a cocked striker component (constant level of trigger pull from first to last round fired) with a double-action hammer system. Using such an enhanced trigger system consolidates ease of use and safety into a convenient, innovative trigger operation—one that reduces the chance of unintended firing. And in case of an ammunition-related failure to fire, all that is needed is an additional second or third squeeze of the trigger without the need of first pulling the slide back to re-cock the pistol. The enhanced LEM trigger system combines the reliability of a double action revolver trigger with the crisp trigger of a single action pistol.

P30S models have an ambidextrous safety lever mounted on both sides of the frame. S models are available in conventional double-action/single action trigger mode and with HK’s enhanced double action only Law Enforcement Modification trigger

A Picatinny rail molded into the front of the frame makes mounting lights, laser aimers, or other accessories easy and convenient. The extractor doubles as a loaded chamber indicator providing a subtle tactile and visual reminder of a loaded chamber.

Extensively tested, the P30 has already been adopted by several European police agencies. Excellent weight and balance make the P30 naturally pointable, easy to control, and accurate to shoot. An open notch rear sight with luminous (non-radioactive) contrast points allows for fast and accurate target acquisition, even under poor lighting conditions.

During a recent (2009-2010) endurance test, a P30 test pistol fired more than 91,000 rounds without any major component failures.

P30 and P30S models available in 9 mm and .40 S&W.
